Menopause. The term may sound medical and complex, it has very simple meaning. For many of you, who may not know the meaning of menopause, it is the condition of menstrual periods absence for an approximately twelve months. The transition of the menopausal period begins with fluctuating menstrual cycle length while it ends with the last menstruation.

The time around menopause is termed as Perimenopause which is also used refer to the transition of menopausal menstruation. Though the term is not medical, it is seldom used to explain a few important aspects of the menopause transition.

What is Postmenopausal?

Postmenopausal is an adjective which is used in the medical world to refer after-menopause-time. For instance, experts may talk of a state that takes place in postmenopausal women. Here, the term postmenopausal women are speaking of the women who have already undergone menopause.

The commonly seen symptoms of menopause in a woman’s body include hot flashes, mood swings, tiredness, Vaginal itching or a dry vagina.

What does menopause indicate?

When the role of ovaries ends in a woman’s body, it is considered as the menopause time. In such a phase, women no longer are capable of pregnancy. The ovaries are found in the pelvis. They are located in two of the sides of the uterus. The size and shape of an ovary are similar to the one with almond. The ovaries generate female organs like estrogen while also producing eggs. An Ova or in other words, the egg is grown from one ovary during each menstrual periods. It traverses to the uterus through a fallopian tube.

The prime source of female hormones are the ovaries. This decides the development of bust, body shape or the body hair. These estrogens control pregnancy and the menstrual cycle as well.

What is perimenopause?

Perimenopause differs from woman to woman. Science experts are still researching on the influential facets which begin this transitional time.

At what age does a woman typically reach menopause?

Fifty-one is said to be the average age of menopause. However, one cannot foretell when a woman a particular woman will have begun the menopause or have signs of suggestive menopause.

People often misunderstand that the menopausal age is concerned with the age when women start having menstrual periods, which again, is not true. Mostly, women have menopause during the mid-40s or mid-50s, having said that, it may take place between the age of 30 and 40. Rare cases have seen women reaching their menopause when she is 60+. It has been observed that many women have menopause at the similar age to their mother’s menopausal age.

Generally, perimenopause sees a sign such as irregular menstrual cycle with other typical symptoms of early menopause. It may begin ten years before the last menstruation.

How long does menopause last?

This is another misconception in women that menopause is a process. It is rather a point of time when a woman’s final period ends. The woman would not know when she has reached the time of menopause phase unless she has undergone 12 succeeding months with the absence of period. The signs of menopause, however, may initiate years after the actual menopause.

Menopause is not an overnight thing, it takes time and happens gradually. The experience menopausal transition phase is different for every woman.
