For a woman to know when she can possibly get pregnant, she needs to understand her menstrual cycle and ovulation period.

This blog helps you understand the time from menstrual period till the time of ovulation.

Understanding the menstrual cycle:

When you menstruate, your body prepares you to conceive the next time you have sexual intercourse. Knowing the menstrual cycle is as important as understanding fertility. Not only does it help plan pregnancy, but it also warns you if there’s any health concern related to the reproductive system.

The following points help you understand each phase of menstruation and the menstrual cycle.

Day 1-5 ( Menstruation)

It is the first day when your bleeding starts. As per the experts, it is the first day of the menstrual cycle. You bleed for the next 5days, and that is known to be menstruation. Some women bleed for 3-7 days on odd days. However, 5 days is common. The bleeding pattern is different throughout the 5 days. The first two days are generally heavier while there’s only slight bleeding on the 4th and 5th day of menstruation.

Days 6-14

From the 6th day, the bleeding stops. That’s when the endometrium starts preparing for the conception likelihood. The chances of pregnancy slowly increase, eventually ovulation taking place at the end.

Day 14-25

For a menstrual cycle of 28 days, ovulation takes place on the 14th day. By this, it means the ovaries release an egg through the fallopian tubes. The fertility slowly declines towards the end of the cycle.

Day 25-28

If the egg does not meet sperm during a woman’s ovulation period, the body goes through hormonal changes again. As a result, the uterus prepares for the shedding and the egg passes through the vaginal bleeding.

What is ovulation?

As said before, ovulation begins on the 14th day of a 28-day menstrual cycle. It happens when the egg released from the ovary for fertilization. It can release from either of the ovaries, around the 14th day of each menstrual cycle. As the egg matures, it passes through the fallopian tubes.

At this point, if you have unprotected sexual intercourse and sperm reaches the egg through ejaculated semen, it can be fertilized. Since the egg gets fertilized, the uterus does not shed thereafter until the pregnancy is either terminated or continued.

If the sperm does not reach the egg, the body prepares for the next menstruation. Most women plan their pregnancy based on the ovulation period. However, if your egg is fertilized unexpectedly, you can end the pregnancy by buying abortion pill kit online and having a medical abortion.
