Unlike the case in surgical abortion, medical abortion does not use surgical instruments to end an unwanted pregnancy. A surgical pregnancy termination or induced abortion has high chances of infection to the cervix and vaginal area.

This infection can be severe at times affecting the vaginal health of women permanently. This is surely not the case with medical termination of pregnancy.

In a medical abortion process, there are very rare possibilities of infections. Women must note that recent studies and improvements have lowered the number of infections in medical abortion cases by around 93%.

When women buy abortion pills especially, Misoprostol and mifepristone online, it is advised that they learn the abortion procedure and risks involved.  We’ll see what are the infection risks involved in the pills-induced pregnancy ending process.

Mifepristone:
Mifepristone is an antiprogesterone tablet which contributes the medical abortion process by stopping the fetal growth. There’s no infection risk in the abortion process after taking Mifepristone.

Misoprostol:
Misoprostol is a prostaglandin pill that contributed the medical abortion process by removing pregnancy contents from the body. The prostaglandin constituents cause contractions in the uterine lining. This is the reason why women feel cramps in their lower back area and heavily bleed for around a week.

If the bleeding gets heavier than necessary and proper vaginal health is not being taken care of, there can be possibilities of infection to the vaginal area. This can also take place if the woman has used a tampon to soak the blood during the abortion process.

What should you do mitigate the possibilities of infection risks?

Use pads:
Women misunderstand that passing during medical pregnancy termination process is similar to the menstruation bleeding. It is a case with some women, but not all. The bleeding encountered during the abortion process is heavier than the menstrual periods.

Women usually prefer tampons for their menstruation, however, for abortion, a woman must use pads and strictly avoid the use of tampons or menstrual cups.

Change your pads regularly:
It is important to change your pads regularly while undergoing the medical abortion procedure. If you are using maxi pads, you are most likely to change it thrice a day. For normal pads, you may require frequent pads changing.

Do not have sexual intercourse:
It is an important factor which can help prevent an unwanted pregnancy. Penetration increases the chances of bacterial infections in the cervix and vaginal region. Hence, do not be involved in sexual activities while the process is going on. You have sexual intercourse as soon as you recover from the abortion process.

Consult a doctor if there’s excessive bleeding:
There can be excessive bleeding in certain cases ( the probability is rare) However, in case you experience extreme blood loss, it may put pressure on the vagina leading to infection. Your doctor can advise and take pills to lower the blood loss due to Misoprostol.

Vaginal discharge is normal in the pregnancy termination procedure, you must know which one is alarming and which one is a symptom of pregnancy termination. Monitor your discharge and consult your physician if you suspect any abnormal bleeding pattern.
